In the past day we have come back from the sunny warm weather of Atlanta to the snowy temps of New England. Taking a look back on what we learned through our intense trip to the south, I found that we explored the evolution of the great city of Atlanta. We learned about the old south from all the different museum we went to. We studied the civil rights movement, we experienced only a fraction of what it must have felt like at a lunch bar sit in, and we watched as the city of Atlanta progressed the the years. With each day we gradually moved from the old south to taking a look at what Atlanta is famous for now a days. I think Atlanta has progressed as a modern day city, but keeps its past in everyones mind so as not to over look a key piece of history.

Today we had an earlier start to the day so that we can tour the movie studios in Atlanta. We took about a two hour long tour going all around Atlanta seeing where most of The Walking Dead was filmed and other movies such as: Fast and Furious 7, Pitch Perfect 3, The Hunger Games, and several others. After the tour we got lunch in the CNN food court followed by some free time in the hotel to relax and refresh a little. Finally we went to a park a few blocks over from our hotel and we were able to go fishing in the river, go on trails, play basketball, use the playgrounds and walk around near by restaurants to get dinner. Today was a nice and relaxing day being able to spend a lot of time outside in the sunshine. The Forman Winterim to Atlanta trip traveled via Marta to the CNN headquarters and the World of Coke today. First at the CNN headquarters we took a trip behind the scenes of the leading news sources. Learning about the history and the many branches of CNN we got to see some of the real offices and studios. Following that tour we ate lunch in the building and got ready to head to the Coke a Cola museum, there we learned about the history of Coke and even the secret recipe. Taking a ride on the 4D, looking at coke thorough the modern ages, and of course the giant tasting room were all parts of the amazing tour. Following our trips to the museums, we popped back into the hotel to rest up for our night out.
This morning we went to the Kennesaw Battle Site for a special presentation about Civil War artillery, specifically cannons, and then we took a beautiful hike nearby. The hike was a fun walk, and we got some great views from the top! After that, we grabbed a delicious lunch at a burger restaurant. In the afternoon, we went to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History to learn about trains and the railroad system during the Civil War. There were several interesting displays and a short documentary. For the remainder of the day, we went to a rather large mall called Lenox Square for shopping and dinner before heading back to the hotel for the night.
Today we woke up early and got ready to go to Atlanta. We had a long day of traveling. We got on a 2 hour plane ride. When we arrived we took multiple trains to get to our bags. The first stop we had was at Ok Cafe. The Ok Cafe was recomended to us by John Cheney, the food there was good and so was the service you can tell why its a popular place to go for lunch in Atlanta. next stop on our first day was the history center. the highlight about the History Center was they had a farm from the Civil War period with re-enactors. finally we came back to our hotel and ended of the day by exploring part of the city and finding places to eat with our groups.
For the first half of this day, we started out by finishing up the film “Gone With The Wind,” which we had started the day before. Then we took a nice little break, then we started back up with more history, jumping ahead a few years. We learned a lot about the Jim Crow laws, laws that enforced segregation and were just another form of slavery for African Americans. We learned about reconstruction, and how African Americans were treated, even after they were freed.

On our final day of preparation for Atlanta we started off the day by taking a brief quiz on things we have learned about the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement. Than we had a group discussion on all of the questions to review the information incase we forgot something or didn't fully understand the question. Once we finished discussing the quiz we went over everyone's power point presentations that we have made earlier in the week. The powerpoints were very helpful because we were able to have a better understanding for what to expect on this trip, it also helped to know about how long it takes to get somewhere and how long we will be there for. Lastly we went back to our rooms to finish packing, Mrs Zullo went around to the girls rooms to make sure they were on the right track for packing and Mr Marks did the same for the boys. Yesterday in our winterum class we watched a movie called Gone with the Wind. It's a movie about how the culture of the south has disappeared. Its an interesting movie because in most movies about the civil war they show the south as bad people however in this movie it seemed as if they wanted you to root for the confederates. In the movie they didn’t even acknowledge that slavery is wrong. In some parts of the movie they made one of the female slaves in the house seem stupid and helpless. Throughout the movie the white people would disregard the slaves like they were not people and I guess back then they didn't see them as people. Things have come a long way however we still have a lot of racial discrimination. I hope when we go to Atlanta we can find out how things are getting better.
Today in class we finished the movie Gone With The Wind. We also started to discuss and get into Civil Rights. We watched a short documentary dealing with oppression, segregation and key leaders that included and revolved around the world of Civil Rights.
